Pete Alonso is taking one day at a time. The 28-year-old first baseman from New York is focused on helping the Mets win a World Series this year and appears on track. Since joining the majors this season, his performances have been nothing short of outstanding – one reason the team gave Brandon Nimmo, Edwin Diaz, and Jeff McNeil mega contracts.

Alonso continues to hit for power for the Mets, homering again during Thursday’s 7-4 win over the Giants. This was his third homer in four games and gave him 10 long balls on the season – making him an invaluable option in fantasy baseball leagues of all types and formats. A Florida native, Alonso should continue seeing plenty of action between now and playoff time.

Alonso still has much to do before the 2023 offseason arrives, yet is not thinking too far into his future just yet. Although his contract is secured for two seasons more, Alonso wants to make sure the front office knows he deserves an extension in terms of both money and playing time.

After an uneven start to the season, Alonso has turned around quickly over the last month. He’s hit at least one homer in each of his last seven games and stands just a few homers away from tying Carlos Beltran for sixth place on the Mets all-time home run list.

On Friday in Cleveland’s 4-3 win, Alonso hit his latest homer by taking rookie Taj Bradley deep for a 446-foot drive that went out to center field – his sole hit of a twin bill but one which propelled him even further towards leading MLB with 18 homers this season.

He boasts a 24:45 BB:K ratio in 209 plate appearances this season.

Born in Tampa, Florida and initially attending Jesuit High School for his first two years before transferring to Henry B. Plant High School to complete his education. While at Jesuit he played lacrosse and football before choosing baseball as his primary sport.

Alonso was selected by the New York Mets in the second round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft from University of Florida and boasts an incredible power stroke and knack for collecting extra bases. Alonso appears to have tremendous momentum behind him now and appears as though they may have found their next superstar player.
