Michael Jeffrey Jordan (born October 6, 1961) is an American former professional basketball player who competed 19 seasons in the National Basketball Association and won six championships with Chicago Bulls and one with Washington Wizards during that time. Nicknamed “The Mailman” or “His Airness”, Jordan also served as an active philanthropist through founding Peace Through Basketball Foundation as well as serving on several corporate boards.
As of 2022, Jordan owns a majority share in the Charlotte Hornets NBA franchise which he purchased in 2006. He serves as their managing member of basketball operations and president. Jordan also owns 23XI Racing NASCAR team which debuted its inaugural race with Denny Hamlin driving No. 23 car – representing both his basketball number as well as his father’s high school number of 45.
Jordan has become an accomplished film producer, having produced and co-starring in two critically-acclaimed HBO drama series; The Wire (2002-10) as hard-edged yet softhearted Wallace; Friday Night Lights (2006) on NBC as football player Vince Howard; Fruitvale Station (2013) which tells Oscar Grant’s tragic shooting by police officers at San Francisco train platform Fruitvale Station is also directed by Ryan Coogler as is Creed (2015) with Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson; Black Panther (2018) are all directed by Coogler as well.
As a passionate comic book reader since he was young, Jordan made headlines as the main antagonist in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s 2018 blockbuster Black Panther and will reprise his role of Erik Killmonger for 2021 sequel Black Panther: A New Legacy. Jordan lives with his wife and two children in Los Angeles; owning property in Sherman Oaks as well as supporting Lupus LA animal shelter.
