Gabbard was the youngest woman ever elected to the House of Representatives in Hawaii and is the youngest member of Congress. Her father, Mike Gabbard, served as a state senator in Hawaii and her grandfather, Mike, was a state senator of the state.

Gabbard has been a member of the US Congress since 2012. She is a Hindu and a war veteran who served in Iraq and Kuwait. She is the first Hindu woman to serve in the U.S. Congress and has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2012. Gabbard has also been a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020. She has supported conservative stances on abortion and transgender rights.
