Trader Joe’s Chicken Shawarma Review

Trader Joe’s Chicken Shawarma Review

Shawarma is a traditional Middle Eastern street food typically prepared by roasting thinly sliced pieces of marinated meat on an upright spit, then wrapping it all up in warm, soft Middle-Eastern flatbread and serving.

Trader Joe’s has joined the shawarma bandwagon by offering pre-marinated shawarma chicken packages, and they appear to be quite delicious. Their Chicken Shawarma features dark meat chicken that’s slightly moister and flavorful than white meat; its marinade blend includes spices not typically associated with Middle Eastern cooking, yet still seems to do its job effectively.

This product can be found in the refrigerated section and offers two large boneless, skinless chicken thighs marinated with an assortment of flavors such as paprika, turmeric, garlic and sea salt. Although the package recommends grilling them instead, I found they tasted just as well when cooked using my air fryer.

At your local Trader Joe’s store, Trader Joe’s Chicken Shawarma costs $6.99 per pound – making it relatively pricey compared to their other prepared meat options but easily combined with some flatbread, hummus or another dip and an array of vegetables for a satisfying meal!

This product stands out as being particularly healthy compared to many prepared meals, and the chicken itself doesn’t contain excessively fatty content. Unfortunately, however, its accompanying sauce contains quite a lot of added sugar; something to bear in mind if reducing added sugar consumption.

I would certainly purchase this again and recommend giving it a try if you’re searching for pre-marinated meats. Make sure that when cooking your Trader Joe’s Chicken Shawarma that it reaches an internal temperature of 165F before taking it off of the heat; this will ensure connective tissue breaks down during its preparation, creating more juicy and tender chicken pieces. It would make an excellent addition to your weekly meal prep plans; just pop it in either an air fryer or grill to finish cooking this masterpiece in under 20 minutes!
