May Queen Costume Midsommar has been around for as long as there have been May Day celebrations across Europe. As the name suggests, the May Queen represents earth’s fertility and purity. In the Victorian era, a crowning May Queen was a part of society’s mores. Nowadays, it’s still a fun party to be a part of. However, there’s more to the ceremony than just the wearing of the crown.

The May Queen costume is a visual feat to behold. From the towering flower crown to the opulent attire, it is a testament to the talent and dedication of the film’s costume designer, Jacqueline Durand. It also hints at the film’s dark underbelly. To get a closer look, you’ll have to wait until April 27. But if you’re lucky enough to be able to make the journey to Manhattan, you can be rewarded with a taste of the aural experience at noon.

The Midsommar may be the first movie to feature a Midsommar worthy costume, but it’s not the only one. The arthouse film company A24 has rounded up a slew of movie-related props, and the auction is about to commence. Several items are up for grabs, including a Furby necklace based on Adam Sandler’s character in Uncut Gems.

The most impressive part of the shindig is that the prize money goes to charities, not just movie moguls. Specifically, proceeds will benefit New York City firefighters and hospitals that are providing coronavirus relief. Some of the more intriguing pieces of property up for grabs include a carved wooden mermaid, a memento from the film’s production, and the May Queen dress to name a few.

Using the Midsommar aficionado as a starting point, the next stop was the A24 auction, which ran from 4 May to 17 May. Notably, A24 won’t be the only studio to offer up some goodies, as other contenders such as the Affleck Foundation, the FDNY Foundation, and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures were also in the fray. Among the prizes were a May Queen gown, a bespoke ring, and a hand crafted chandelier. These items will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, with the most expensive item going to the aforementioned FDNY Foundation. You might want to check out the aforementioned site in advance of the auction, or perhaps wait for the big day to see what is up for grabs. After all, it’s not every day that you have the opportunity to bid on a piece of history.

Of course, it’s not too surprising that the “Midsomm”, as the name implies, stood out from the crowd. This is due in part to the fact that the city of Harga, in northern Sweden, is home to one of the world’s largest pagan communities, so its reverberations are far reaching.
