A Look at Gary Chapman
Gary Chapman has built his fortune through a successful music career that spans more than two decades, becoming one of the nation’s premier singers in that time. Nowadays, Gary lives life to its fullest with Cassie Piersol as his wife and their child in tow.
Gary Chapman was the son of an Assemblies of God pastor. Raised in De Leon, Texas after graduating high school, Gary moved to Nashville where he performed with local bands before recording his debut album Sincerely Yours in 1981 which quickly became an instantaneous hit and is considered Contemporary Christian Music (CCM), which sounds similar to pop music with religious or inspirational lyrics.
His second CCM album, Happenin’…Live was released in 1987 to great acclaim and helped cement him as an international name within Christian music. Furthermore, in 1987 he also embarked on his inaugural concert tour.
In 1996, after seeing his work on Sam’s Place specials for Nashville Network’s Sam’s Place specials, they decided to give him a try at hosting Prime Time Country evening talk show as an anchor and eventually replaced Tom Wopat as anchor of Prime Time Country until 1999 when Gone Country made him available as songwriting mentor.
He produced an album for Reunion Records called Shelter that featured numerous hits like the single, “One of Two.” This earned him a Dove Award nomination as Male Vocalist of the Year; additionally he won Special Event Album of the Year as well as nominated for Inspirational Recorded Song and Songwriter of the Year awards that same year.
Chapman suffered an enormous blow when his 17-year marriage to Amy Grant ended in divorce in 1999. They shared three children together – Matt, Millie, and Sarah. Amy Grant filed for the split in March that year citing irreconcilable differences as the reason. Chapman then married Jennifer Pittman briefly before they separated again in 2007 before eventually marrying Cassie Piersol with whom he now shares Eva as his only child.
