Gwinnett County police reported a man was shot to death and three others taken to the hospital following a shooting at an apartment complex in Buford on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at Preston Hills at Mill Creek apartments on 2900 block of Buford Drive shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Over the weekend, U.S. authorities reported that a convicted sexual offender from Gwinnett County who had been on the run for almost five years was apprehended in Mexico.

It remains uncertain why the suspect entered Mexico, though he could have been trying to hide from police. According to Valle, he had an unusually large amount of cash on him and appeared to be intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

He had been in the country for several months without being arrested, suggesting he may have been looking for a new place to live. Police do not know what caused the shooting but speculate that he may have had an alcohol or drug issue.

At the time of shooting, the suspect was wearing a black hoodie which had become heavily stained with blood.

Police reported that the gunman was seen holding an open can of beer. He is described as being 5-foot-10 and weighing around 180 pounds.
