Sing What Happens Next (DVD) Review

The sequel to the 2016 hit animated film, Sing, arrives in theaters this weekend. With an all-star cast, including Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, and Reese Witherspoon, the sequel is sure to delight audiences again as the anthropomorphic performers continue their musical journey.

The gang is back and ready to take the stage in Sing what happens next, but it seems that the arctic wolf mogul Crystal (Bobby Canavale) has other plans for them than a singing competition. He’s also got his spoiled arctic wolf daughter Porsha (Halsey) to impress and has his eye on Clay Calloway, a former rock star who’s retreated into retirement after the death of his wife.

Buster Moon is determined to move his show to a bigger venue and convince Crystal that he can make it big. He even enlists the help of his friend Eddie, who’s an old sheep friend with a lot invested in the theater. But before he can make it happen, he and the rest of the animals have to face their fears and overcome their sex issues.

Among the returning characters are Rosita (Juliette Lewis), the ice cream vendor Meena (Kelly Macdonald), and Buster’s friend Mike (Taran Killam) who wants to prove he’s better than everyone else at their card game. He ends up swindling the bears out of money, but when he goes to see his dad in prison, he realizes he made the right choice and decides to forgive the other players.

As for Ash and Johnny, they aren’t as sure if they want to join the team at all. But Buster gives them a list of songs to choose from, and Ash decides to go with her heart.

Meanwhile, Meena, who’s afraid to ask for a second chance in the auditions, shows up at Buster’s house. He tries to convince her to re-audition, but she doesn’t want to, so he assumes she’ll be part of the show.

When the gang finally moves to Crystal Entertainment’s headquarters, the pressure begins to mount on them. It’s a daunting task to get a big-name performer to join them. But with the help of Buster and his friends, they’re determined to succeed, even if it means risking their lives.

In the end, they do. They have the help of a seasoned rock star and they’re about to bring a whole new audience to their theater.

Sing what happens next is a delightful family movie full of twists and turns that are both fun to watch and thought-provoking. It’s also a great reminder that life is full of challenges and you need to fight for your dreams.

It’s the kind of story that makes you look back on your own life and think about how much it has changed. The characters are all so believable and you’re rooting for them throughout the film.
