A Shooting in Lithonia Ga Today Left One Man Dead and Another Injured

Today a shooting in Lithonia, GA left one man dead and another injured. This is the latest in a string of incidents that have rocked the city recently, including a deadly attack at a mall.

At McDonald’s in DeKalb County, a person was shot inside. NewsChopper 2 reporter Tyisha Fernandes flew over the scene and saw one window shattered as well as discovering that a customer was inside when the shooting took place and sustained minor injuries.

Next, a Gwinnett County corrections officer was tragically shot and killed while on his way to work. In honor of his memory, his family is asking Gwinnettians to line the route his funeral procession will take on Tuesday morning.

At Southgate Plaza, WRDW/WAGT spoke to several employees who worked there about the shooting. They expressed that it had been an incredibly sad incident that left them in tears.

The shooting at Southgate Plaza has forced the closure of a supermarket located on Gordon Highway near Southgate Plaza. Employees there lament its loss, particularly since it happened so close to home.

Police are still actively investigating a shooting that occurred outside a restaurant and bar near Mall of Georgia on Saturday night, which they believe to have been caused by an argument between two known parties.

At around 11 p.m., a man was shot outside of a restaurant located in an apartment complex off Buford Drive near the Mall of Georgia. Police reported that someone had just opened fire on him when he called them from outside the establishment.

However, police reported that they do not currently have any suspects. They are still assessing the situation and conducting a thorough investigation.

GCPD reports the shooting occurred at the Parma Tavern on Buford Drive Friday afternoon. Several people were inside when they heard gunfire coming from outside in the parking lot.

According to GCPD, Martin was driving a white van when he pulled into the parking lot and began shooting. The driver of the van attempted to stop Martin but he continued shooting at their vehicle. Finally, Martin jumped out of his vehicle and shot himself in the leg.

Martin then drove away and returned to the car that had been sitting in the parking lot when he started shooting again. This vehicle had been driven by a woman, who wasn’t present when the shooting took place.

Just one week earlier, a teenager was fatally shot and killed in a Mall of Georgia parking lot. The victim was unidentified but believed to be an undergraduate student at Mill Creek High School.

In December, several people were shot at the same mall. This shooting marked the latest in a string of violent incidents that have taken place at the establishment in recent days.

Over the same period, several other shootings have been reported across Georgia. On Thanksgiving day, a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed in DeKalb County; shortly thereafter, a father and his young daughter were tragically shot to death in Fulton County.
