Liza Minnelli – Kennedy Center Honoree

The Kennedy Center annually honors artists and performers whose works have made lasting contributions to American culture through the arts. Established in 1978, this annual program recognizes artists of various mediums. Honorees are selected by an executive committee of the Center’s Board of Trustees without regard for particular art forms or categories of achievement; rather, selection is based on overall excellence of an artist’s work.

Liza Minnelli is an acclaimed actress, singer and dancer renowned for her incredible performances in both theater and film. With a career spanning four decades, her talent is undeniable – she’s appeared in over one hundred films and remains an icon of American entertainment.

Tony and Grammy awardee, she has earned numerous other distinctions throughout her career. Additionally, she was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame and named a Kennedy Center Honoree.

Her personal life has been filled with divorces and multiple marriages. Ultimately, she only has one biological child – Liza Gabor – who is not as well-known as her mother.

Though she is best known for her comedic roles, she has also starred in dramas and made films that deal with more serious subjects. Her efforts have earned her multiple Oscar nominations and wins as well as numerous other honors and awards.

Minnelli has earned numerous awards and accolades for her advocacy of women’s rights. She has spoken out against sexual harassment and worked to improve the lives of women around the world.

She has also been recognized by President Barack Obama for her advocacy on behalf of women. In 2017, she was appointed to the President’s Council on Women and Girls, an initiative designed to empower women and increase their awareness about life-altering issues.

Minnelli has been recognized by the Kennedy Center with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame and Kennedy Center Honors for her dedication to the arts. She has appeared in numerous television shows, movies, and stage productions throughout her career.

The Kennedy Center Honors is an esteemed award bestowed by the United States government each year at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The program recognizes individuals whose works have had a lasting impact on American culture through music, dance, theater and opera – regardless of genre or medium.

Recently, dancer Carmen de Lavallade, actor Norman Lear and singer Lionel Richie have all been honored at this prestigious ceremony. Other notable honorees include Gloria Estefan, LL Cool J and actress Robin Williams – who serves as host.

Unfortunately, not all those deserving of Kennedy Center Honors have been recognized by the institution. Some simply aren’t deserving of an award and others would be completely inappropriate for the event.
