Kylie Jenner Launches Rise and Shine T Shirts

Kylie Jenner has made good on her promise to kickstart a viral “Rise and Shine” meme with merchandise she released this week. On Thursday, 22-year-old Kylie Cosmetics founder released two hoodies on her official website that feature this popular phrase and retail for $65 each; each features “riiise and shiiine” alongside an image of Jenner cropped into the shape of a sun.

Jenner has unveiled not only hoodies but also coffee mugs and phone cases bearing her catchphrase for sale; beauty mogul has created an extensive line of coffee mugs featuring white ceramic cups with black lids; these matches come complete with phone cases in both black and clear plastic to choose from!

Jenner announced her rise and shine merch launch just weeks after she went viral for singing the phrase to Stormi Webster while giving a tour of her office in YouTube video, awakening Stormi with the melody that quickly went viral online and even inspired pop superstar Ariana Grande’s own remix.

Jenner hopes to capitalize on the viral fad by filing paperwork to trademark its various variants and variations, according to documents seen by USA TODAY. She seeks to protect phrases like “riiise and shiiine” and “rise and shine,” along with images depicting herself framed like a sun. But it should be noted that trademark applications don’t guarantee anything, making the odds against her successfully securing “rise and shine” an extremely low probability.

As such, it seems likely that the Kardashian-Jenner clan will exploit this phrase as long as possible; their trademark application has yet to be evaluated by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and local trademark laws could create additional challenges for an aspiring self-made entrepreneur.

Although Jenner may understandably want to protect her future billions, going after small businesses and forcing them to stop selling shirts featuring the phrase ‘rise and shine’ is no way acceptable. This action would be the equivalent of Walmart opening up in a small town and driving out local mom-and-pop-owned shops; certainly not an admirable behavior from an emerging billionaire such as Kylie Jenner. Cased Clothing later denied receiving cease and desist letters from Kylie or anyone related to the Kardashian-Jenner clan; however people were quick to criticize Kylie for her unjustified actions against non-family.
