Jessica Vosk on Wake Up With BWW

Jessica Vosk is a celebrated Broadway actress and singer renowned for her stirring performances on musical theater stages, earning several prestigious awards during her illustrious career. Throughout it all she has starred in such iconic musical theater shows as The Book of Mormon, Into the Woods and Tony Award winner Wicked; featured guest performer at Carnegie Hall several times; as well as featured performer in one-woman show GET HAPPY: A Judy Garland Centennial Celebrations.

Vosk currently stars as Florence Vassy in the Muny’s groundbreaking musical Chess, running July 5-11. The show recounts chess champion Frederick Trumper’s complicated love affair with Soviet opponent Anatoly Sergievsky, as seen through their courtship. A stellar cast featuring Jarrod Spector (Fiddler on the Roof), John Riddle (The Phantom of the Opera), Rodney Hicks (Come From Away), Tally Sessions (Broadway’s Jersey Boys), Phillip Johnson Richardson (Hamilton in Chicago) and Taylor Louderman (Mean Girls).

Host Matt Tamanini sits down with Vosk to discuss her new role at The Muny, singing Chess’ difficult score and working with its cast has been so rewarding for her. Vosk opens up about how she landed Florence and discusses their history with composers Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus from ABBA!

Vosk exuded genuine warmth and enthusiasm throughout our conversation. She particularly valued Mary Mitchell Campbell, her talented musical director/principal accompanist/principal accompanist; listing off his impressive resume like an eager parent listing the achievements of their child.

Vosk is clearly adept in front of the camera and her friendly rapport with both audience members and fellow actors is evident. Her genuine appreciation of their talents shines through to make the experience that much more enjoyable for everyone involved. Looking ahead, Vosk plans on spending some time off to spend time with family and friends before returning to acting once she feels the urge. We cannot wait to see what the future brings for this acclaimed Broadway actress!
