Is Alicia Keys a Lesbian?

Alicia Keys has long been subjected to speculations of sexuality; including allegations she’s secretly gay. But, the singer has consistently refuted such speculations. Hailing from New York, Keys is best known for her vocal talents and songwriting prowess, having released 12 studio albums over her career and giving birth to two sons with Swizz Beatz (her current spouse).

Last year, Keys addressed gay rumors in a blog post on her website. She noted that she used to act tomboyish due to insecurities; after learning about these rumors she learned how to dress more feminine. Furthermore she did not understand why some assumed her tomboyish style made her lesbian.

In another article, she discussed her romance with Swizz Beatz. They first began dating while Beatz was still married to Mashonda Tifrere; who shared with him one teenage son; however Mashonda claimed Alicia Keys was an intruder leading them apart eventually leading Alicia and Swizz Beatz having their son Kasseem Dean as well as further relationship responsibilities together.

Keys is widely known for her “Girl On Fire” songs and piano performances, having earned 15 Grammy Awards and 17 NAACP Image Award nominations throughout her career. In addition, Keys is responsible for many memorable songwriting hits like “Fallin”, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, and “Always On Time”. As well as her musical endeavors, Keys also works tirelessly as an advocate for LGBTQ rights.

Alicia Keys was born in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan on January 25, 1981 to a single mom who encouraged her to pursue music; taking piano lessons as a child and writing her first songs at 12. Attending Manhattan’s Professional Performance Arts School she graduated within the top 10% of her class.

As an adult, Keys moved to Brooklyn and embarked upon her musical career. Her debut album Songs in a Minor debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart and garnered five Grammy awards, including Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Since then, she has released twelve additional albums.

Alicia Keys remains a regular woman who values family. Being a mother has helped her find balance between her personal and professional lives.
