He was also an actor who appeared as Johnny Dio, a cigar-smoking prison chef, in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 film Goodfellas.

At Rao’s, diners can enjoy dishes such as lemon chicken and meatballs and eggplant parmesan or take advantage of the jukebox. The menu consists of classics and contemporary favorites, and the restaurant is popular with both locals and tourists alike.

He was a founding director of the National Museum of Italian American History in Manhattan, and served on the board of the Metropolitan Opera for many years.

As a businessman, Pellegrino was a leader in the plastic molding industry. He managed General Fibre Company, a company that manufactured a variety of plastic models and duck decoys.

During his tenure as president of General Fibre, Pellegrino grew the company to become the largest manufacturer of duck decoys in the United States. The company produced more than a million decoys each year in the 1950s and 1960s.

After the end of World War II, Pellegrino transitioned General Fibre from its production of wood fiber pulp products into the plastics and plastic molding industries. The company grew to become one of the largest manufacturers of duck, goose, and swan decoys in the United States, with its annual production reaching more than a million models. He negotiated the sale of the company to Interco, Inc. and created a number of inventions related to the plastics and plastic molding industries.

On the legal front, he represented public and private clients in a broad range of transactions and securities matters. He also counseled acquirors and targets in mergers and acquisitions, and advised issuers in public and private equity and debt offerings.

He received his BBA in accounting from Bernard Baruch College of the City University of New York and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was a co-managing partner of Pellegrino & Sherwin, LLP from 1989 to 2013.

In his spare time, Pellegrino enjoyed reading and writing poetry and music. He was also an active volunteer in his church, Bridgeway Church in Greenville, SC, where he had been a member for more than 30 years.
