Her most famous role was on the television show, The Cosby Show, where she played the character of Clair Huxtable. However, she has also appeared in numerous films and on the stage.

After her time on The Cosby Show, Rashad went on to play the role of Ruth Lucas on the same television series from 1996 to 2000. She became the first African American to win a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play. In addition, she won the NAACP Image Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.

Phylicia Rashad has worked as an actress, voice actor, director and producer. She is currently the dean of the College of Fine Arts at Howard University. Since 2010, she has been dubbed “The Mother of the Black Community” at the annual NAACP Image Awards. During her career, she has been nominated for two Emmy Awards and won a Drama Desk award. Additionally, she was nominated for two Tony Awards.
