Arthur Ray Briles was an all-state quarterback at Rule High School

Currently, Arthur Ray Briles is the head coach at Mount Vernon High School in Texas. He previously served as the head coach at Baylor University from 2008 to 2015. He is also the author of a book, “Beating Goliath: My Story of Football and Faith”.

Art Briles was born in Rule, Texas, on December 3, 1955. He has three children with wife Jan Allison. He studied at Abilene Christian University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education, and at Texas Tech. He later earned his master’s degree at Abilene Christian. During the week of Labour Day, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats hired Art Briles as their new head coach. The move generated a lot of attention and even caught the attention of the CFL. In fact, the CFL issued a statement regarding the hiring.

In the press release, the Tiger-Cats didn’t mention the terms of Briles’ departure from Baylor. They did celebrate the fact that Briles broke the college record for most wins at a Division I school.

However, that didn’t do much to dispel the criticism that Art Briles isn’t a good fit for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Briles’ short tenure at the new job didn’t last long.

He was fired from Southern Miss in 2016

During Art Briles’ eight seasons as head coach at Baylor University, the Bears won two consecutive Big 12 championships in 2014 and 2013. The school also had four 10-win seasons in a five-year period. However, in September 2016, the NCAA issued a notice of allegations against Briles.

In response, the NCAA ruled that Briles did not violate NCAA rules. But Baylor still is waiting for the results of an investigation into sexual assault allegations against football players.
