Plumbers may have encountered these push-to-connect fittings before. These connectors are commonly used in plumbing systems to connect copper, PEX, CPVC and other pipes together because they save time, are easy to install and offer reliability.

Installing a SharkBite Fitting

Avoid working in damp or wet areas as this could lead to mold and mildew growth. Furthermore, ensure the area is free of all tools or materials that could interfere with installation.

Next, insert the end of your pipe squarely into the mouth of a SharkBite fitting and gently twist until it reaches the tube stop. You should hear an audible “click” as the O-ring seals, signifying a strong and secure connection.

Once the pipe has been inserted into a SharkBite fitting, it is essential to check that the O-ring seals have been set correctly. Also make sure the release collar is in place and the tube stop is flush with the edge of the release ring; this will prevent accidental release and enable disconnecting without breaking the O-ring seal.

To disconnect a fitting, you should use only an appropriately sized disconnect clip. Never use other tools as they could damage or render the fitting unusable.
