1992 Dream Team Signed Basketball
A 1992 Dream Team Signed Basketball Jersey Is Up For Auction
Many consider the 1992 Dream Team to be one of basketball’s greatest teams ever. Composed largely of professional NBA players, they made a lasting impact on the sport worldwide by winning gold at Barcelona and assembling an unparalleled group of basketball talent.
The Dream Team featured an elite group of talent from both professional and college basketball, including NBA stars Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley and Christian Laettner from Stanford. Together they guided the United States to gold at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona with this stellar line-up by their side.
Basketball fans have long supported teams comprised of players from both professional and collegiate levels, leading to gold medals in every Olympic event since 1991. It comes as no surprise that the USA continues to lead the world in terms of medal winning streaks.
Celebration of this incredible achievement can take many forms. Some are simple, such as a signed basketball jersey or pair of shoes; others are more unique, like a 1992 dream team signed game-worn jersey.
Michael Jordan’s 1992 Nike Dream Team game-worn jersey during the Barcelona Olympics is now up for auction at Robert Edward Auctions. Purchased at a charity auction in September 1992, this item can be auctioned starting Tuesday and ending April 19.
This Dream Team jersey, consigned by The Michael Jordan Foundation, is one of a select few that have been sold at charity auctions over time for an impressive $17,500. All proceeds were donated to The Michael Jordan Foundation.
MEARS grades this jersey an impressive A10, making it one of the finest Jordan signed game-worn jerseys ever produced. Inscribed by Jordan with a black Sharpie pen inscribed “Best Wishes/Michael Jordan,” this piece has earned itself the prestigious A10 rating.
This jersey is offered with its original auction invoice from the Michael Jordan Foundation, which last appeared at public auction as Lot 1040 in Robert Edward Auctions’ Spring 2013 sale, where it sold for a whopping $53,325.
At Lelands 2020 Spring Classic, fans can purchase items related to the Dream Team. These include three pairs of autographed game-worn sneakers worn by Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Magic Johnson during their tenure on the team.
These shoes were purchased at a sports auction and are the only autographed sneakers known to exist for the Dream Team. The consignor was an ex-support staff member of the team who received these sneakers upon winning gold medal game in Barcelona. Jordan, Pippen, and Johnson signed each shoe.
Basketball players have a lot of money to spend, particularly in the NBA. They are some of the world’s most talented and popular athletes, capable of earning millions by playing the sport. Unfortunately, some superstars opt out of competing at the Olympics nowadays; however, all should have equal opportunity to represent their country during this renowned sporting event.
