Zoey 101 follows Zoey Brooks, one of the first girls ever accepted into Pacific Coast Academy, an all-boys boarding school that previously only accepted boys. Zoey’s little brother Dustin also attends PCA. Zoey feels both excited and nervous at her arrival; soon though she makes many friends including popular Chase Matthews and Quinn Pensky from PCA as well as meeting Logan Reese with whom they share a room together.
Zoey and her friends play the Confess or Stress game, in which they must reveal a secret or take part in dares that expose personal details about themselves such as crushes or embarrassing moments that end up making headlines at school the following day. Unfortunately for all involved – particularly Zoey as she becomes the star of the show and starts being blamed by other girls; although she tries to explain that she was just having some fun, but remains at fault.
After some time has passed, Logan and Zoey encounter Kazu, an aspirational makeup artist who attempts to gain fame through her techniques. All three girls attempt to help Kazu but only end up making things worse for her. When Kazu gets upset with Zoey calling her names she decides to break away and leave their group altogether.
Later, Zoey runs into her old friend Stacey Dillsen (Abby Wilde). Stacey asks to join their webcast but is initially turned down; after hearing praise from the school newspaper however, they reconsider and allow both Zoey and Logan back onto it again; eventually an interest TV producer shows an interest and gives them their own segment for broadcast on their webcast, becoming even more successful as the webcast progresses; unfortunately they get into an argument regarding gender preferences on screen.
As soon as rumors spread that Zoey and Logan are dating, everyone was shocked. Zoey initially enjoyed all the attention; however, soon she realized it wasn’t fair on her new friends who might feel left out of being the center of everyone’s attention all of the time.
So she strives to find a balance between being popular and maintaining friendships, and becoming more mature by learning to cohabit with her father on her own.
Over time, she gains more maturity and forms healthy relationships with her friends. Together they begin making independent decisions rather than always depending on their parents for guidance; but some must face reality when jobs or school misbehavior becomes an issue.
Zoey copes with her problems head-on and even launches her own clothing line called Zoey101, featuring clothing, bags, and other accessories adorned with its logo – an instant success among her peers despite some early operational complications.
