Warren Central Football Player Dies
Warren Central stands out among Indiana’s outstanding high school football teams as an underrated squad. However, this year is off to an outstanding start under head coach Mark Nelson’s guidance; players are excited about what could happen on the gridiron this year.
Although the team has made strides towards ascending in IHSAA state rankings, a more serious matter has surfaced off-field. On Friday evening, one of its players, Victor Boyd (Class of 2023 player for this team and according to MaxPreps ranked fifteenth best wide receiver in state) passed away unexpectedly at his coaches house for a cookout on Monday night when it happened.
WTHR spoke with Christa Frazier, the mother of the deceased player. She’s appealing for anyone with information to come forward as “it was devastating to watch his dreams crumble away like that.” Dijon Anderson had also played football at South Illinois University with full ride scholarships available, dreaming of NFL stardom.
This week, his football community joined together in his memory. A makeshift memorial containing candles, footballs and a large teddy bear was established along the fence at school; students also donned T-shirts honoring him when playing against Jeffersonville on Friday.
