Travis Scott Order Status
Travis Scott’s Gag Order Status Could Affect His Future
Travis Scott of Houston faces a legal hurdle that could determine his future. A Texas judge has recently ruled that Travis may be subject to a gag order in connection with the deaths of ten people and thousands injured during last year’s Astroworld stampede, as reported by The Associated Press.
Attorneys for Astroworld victims have asserted that Scott is using his social media presence to build a case against concert promoter and venue Live Nation in their wrongful death lawsuit. Additionally, they contend he is using charity work to gain trust among potential jurors – something which would violate the court’s gag order.
Lawyers representing those harmed or killed during Scott’s performance in November 2017 have filed lawsuits, seeking billions of dollars in damages.
On March 6th, Scott unveiled Project HEAL, a $5 million initiative designed to address safety issues at music festivals and other large-scale events. This announcement came amid police and federal investigations into whether Scott, Live Nation and other festival organizers had put enough safeguards in place to avoid crowd crush injuries.
Uncertain how many lawsuits have been filed against Scott and others, but estimates suggest over 2,800 attended the festival. That number is expected to grow, especially after autopsies revealed several deaths due to compression asphyxia caused by a crowd surge.
Though the autopsy results are tragic, they also highlight how badly managed crowd control at this event was. While ruling out homicide in all 10 cases, the Harris County medical examiner did not rule out other causes of death.
One family that has sued Scott is the Blount family, which lost 9-year-old Ezra Blount in the crowd crush incident. In a court filing obtained by Rolling Stone, Treston Blount asks either for Scott to be released from his silence order or “rescind” it altogether.
The lawsuit alleges Scott was intoxicated at the time of the accident and failed to adequately supervise his staff. Furthermore, it asserts that Scott should have known better than to allow them to leave the stage while he was performing.
Scott’s attorneys have vigorously denied all accusations, asserting that they do not believe he has done anything wrong. Furthermore, they note that Scott has donated funds to charities which assist underprivileged young people and offered to cover funeral expenses for victims’ families.
Scott’s lawyers maintain that despite all the allegations against him, he has an innate good heart. He has supported numerous causes and provided assistance to countless individuals over the years.
He has a longstanding commitment to his community, with his charitable donations benefiting hundreds of young people. Additionally, his contributions have contributed towards mental health programs. Currently, he’s hard at work creating an album which he hopes to release this spring.
