Her father is of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry and her mother has German and some English heritage. She has been an outspoken sex activist and champion for women’s rights; as founding member of the Women’s Media Center she worked on numerous topics related to sexuality and gender identity. Additionally, she is a writer and political activist.
Clog enthusiast, she has an entire closet full of shoes and claims to have a “shoe fetish”. Raised in a conservative household, she admits to being quite religious and clean-living. When reading the script for Sex and the City, she had reservations due to its explicit content but quickly became committed to joining the show after signing on.
Swedish Hasbeens
Swedish Hasbeens, a cult wooden clog brand launched in 2006 when Anita discovered 300 pairs of red, white and black beautiful clogs from the 1970’s in an old factory in Sweden. Inspired by their origins and continuing production at that same factory today, Anita decided to launch her own label.
She set out to create inspiring and daring high-heeled wooden sandals with natural wooden soles, vibrant leather straps and carefully chosen buckles. Now, Swedish Hasbeens clogs can be found in over 50 markets worldwide.
These shoes are handmade and designed in the same tradition as in the 70’s, using ecologically prepared natural grain leather sourced from forests in Europe. The collection offers a range of colors and heel heights – from super low to high – for each shoe enthusiast.
Over time, leather becomes softened and shaped, creating a shoe that fits like a glove. However, be aware that clogs may squeak, so ensure to keep them dry when wearing them. Furthermore, avoid using colored shoe cream on the leather as this could run down into the wooden sole and damage your shoes.
