Stella Mccartney Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
Stella McCartney is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee
Stella McCartney is a true multitasker; from founding her namesake fashion line and animal-rights activism, to designing 2012 Olympic kits and perfumes. But perhaps her most impressive work lies in sustainability and equality: from cutting back leather usage in her designs to offering vegan Stan Smith shoes in her lineup, Stella has made herself known as an influential leader of progressive fashion – making the celebrity circuit take note! Stella’s efforts have garnered her admiration across fashion’s board.
Stella McCartney was raised in Liverpool as an avid music lover by Paul and Linda McCartney, where her interests in music started early on. At first she found pleasure listening to traditional folk tunes; later when she met fellow band members John Lennon and Ringo Starr in 1957 she quickly took an affinity to rock’n’roll’s energetic sound and edge. It sparked the start of an unforgettable love affair.
Since turning 75 on Sunday, McCartney has released an extensive repertoire of songs and composed both classical and electronic music compositions. She is active in international charities that advocate for women’s rights, environmental causes and human rights.
She is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and awarded with an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services rendered to music, fashion and charitable works.
Stella first found success as a fashion designer during the early ’90s, after taking over her father’s brand Chloe. By 2001 she established her eponymous label and quickly gained notoriety for its minimalist aesthetic and eye-catching psychedelic prints. Additionally, Stella is known to reference rock n roll in her designs – even wearing her iconic “About Fucking Time” shirt during induction ceremonies!
McCartney holds an extraordinary connection to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; she once worked to get her late father, Paul McCartney, honored by this organization – something which happened eventually in 1999. Additionally, she’s currently working alongside this group on developing a gender equality index for music industry professionals. She collaborated with artist Jeff Koons to design a line of dresses and accessories for H&M in 2006, and worked on an exclusive T-shirt project with cartoonist Robert Crumb. In 2019, she purchased majority shares from Kering, as well as recently establishing a foundation that promotes sustainability and breast cancer awareness. She partnered with the United Nations to create a global fashion charter; but perhaps her biggest impact could come through creating the first-ever vegan Stan Smith shoe – fashionable, sustainable and inclusive additions that make a statement wherever worn! – Kevin Mazur/Getty Images
