The Spirit of the Macy Awards 2022

Every year, The Spirit of Macy Awards honor excellence in high school musical theater. Held at The Minskoff Theatre, these awards recognize student performers and technicians from participating schools by having them perform a segment from their show and awarding them with trophies for their efforts.

The Broadway League hosts the Jimmy Awards each year to recognize student talent from a range of performing arts centers across 24 states. As part of their mission to foster national recognition of high school talent and inspire future professional actors or actresses, over 140,000 high school students participate in programs across 24 states each year. Through The Jimmy Awards program, which has become a nationally-recognized national event, over 100,000 high school students have had the chance to showcase their abilities.

In addition to the main awards ceremony, The Jimmy Awards program offers students a series of special events that give them an exclusive chance to interact with acclaimed artists and actors. This includes taking students on a tour of Minskoff Theatre where they’ll meet and interview some of those in attendance at the awards ceremony as well as participating in live coverage on social media channels.

Every June 27 at the Minskoff Theatre in New York City, this event pays homage to student performers and technicians as well as their dedication and perseverance.

This event brings together 45 regional awards programs that recognize top student performers and sponsor their travel to New York City for the Jimmy Awards ceremony. Each participating regional awards program will showcase its award winners and performance from the Jimmy Awards in a special program.

These awards are presented by the Broadway League and National Association for Educational Theater (NAEYC). The Jimmy Awards program is an awards show for musical theater performed in high schools. On June 27, winning performances from each regional awards program will be telecast live from Minskoff Theatre.

At the event, the winner of the Spirit of the MACY awards is announced. They receive a trophy and the privilege of performing onstage alongside the Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical award recipient.

No other award compares to the Spirit of the MACY awards. Held annually, this event honors students who demonstrate hard work, dedication, talent and enthusiasm through musical theater programs at their high schools.

Since 1969, The Spirit of the MACY Awards have been rewarding excellence and encouraging achievement in high school musical theater. Awards are given to students who perform or design a show at their school as well as those responsible for designing and producing one of those productions.

This year, several Trinitas arts conservatory students were recognized in the MACY awards. Rosary Academy and Servite High School, where their play Once Upon a Mattress was performed, earned them both a trophy as well as recognition for their participation. It was their second year participating in this program.
