The Links Golf Cup East Lothian is an amateur golf tournament that takes place every year in East Lothian, a picturesque county in the Scottish Highlands. The region boasts more than 20 golf courses and 30 miles of coastline. The Links Golf Cup attracts golfers from all over the UK. The Links Golf Cup East Lothian is a four-round event played on four championship links golf courses in East Lothian. The event is part of the Lothians Championship, the Lothians Boys Championship, and the Lothians Team Tournament. More than 100 golfers participated in the tournament. Liberton’s Scott Allison came close to winning the tournament, but fell short of the overall title.

The tournament’s name is after Tom Watson, an American golfer who won five Open Championships in Great Britain including the Muirfield Open back in 1980. Tom Watson is considered the greatest American links golfer in history. He is only beaten by Harry Vardon’s record of six Open Championships. The American has also won two Masters, a US Open and more than 70 professional tournaments.

East Lothian boasts unspoiled countryside, imposing medieval fortresses, and more than 20 golf courses. The county has a long association with the game. Legend has it that Mary Queen of Scots, after her husband’s death, played golf at Seton. It was believed that her lackluster grief was a sign that he had murdered her.

The Watson Cup matches will be modeled after the Walker Cup matches, held between amateur golfers in the US and Great Britain and Ireland. The matches aim to celebrate the historic connection between the two countries. The first American golfer was Thomas Jefferson, who arrived in America in 1740. In Charleston, South Carolina, the first golf equipment was imported. The Watson Cup matches will allow juniors from South Carolina and Scotland to compete in international team competitions, and learn new skills.
