Knight And Hale Out Of Business
Knight and Hale Game Calls Is Out of Business
Half a lifetime ago, two Kentucky mountain boys emerged from their wooded hills of squirrel, deer, and quail hunting to turn their love of turkey hunting into one of the industry’s most respected companies – Knight & Hale Game Calls. Even today they remain within range of where they started this venture and are among the most recognized hunters in North America despite attaining fame and success they never could have anticipated; nonetheless these conservative, religious men remain as humble as when they first set out on this endeavor.
Knight & Hale may now be part of Mossy Oak, but its co-founders haven’t lost sight of their original values – making it easier for hunters to become better turkey callers through technology in their calls, such as faster learning cycles. Knight & Hale continues pushing the limits of what can be accomplished using handheld turkey tube or box calls.
As soon as the turkey calling duo realized they needed to do something beyond creating great-sounding calls, they quickly turned their efforts toward creating videos to demonstrate proper usage of their calls – leading them to produce instructional videos which have since been used across the country in turkey calling schools and other instructional venues.
Knight and Hale initially self-financed their success through personal savings or loans from friends. A key break came when local outdoors writer Dave Harbour wrote about their turkey tube in a magazine article, leading to an explosion of orders coming their way.
Today Knight and Hale is owned by PRADCO Outdoor Brands; however Harold and David remain actively involved with its operation and continue designing new products while contributing to Knight & Hale’s Ultimate Hunting which airs on Outdoor Channel.
At this year’s ATA show, Knight and Hale introduced two exciting products that earned rave reviews from hunters: the Big Mama pot call features Pennsylvania slate for smooth yelps, cutts and purrs while their line of box calls was given an upgrade with Smooth Operator; its one-sided poplar box design provides superior performance hunters have come to expect from Knight and Hale products. Both products will be available this fall.
