Judah Jackson Obituary 2021
Judah Jackson, son of social media influencers Verlonda and Tariq Jackson of “Jackson Family Values,” died nine months after an accidental lake dive left him with brain damage. Since then, his family have used their platform to raise awareness for pediatric brain injury issues and provide education on these matters.
Verlonda shared on Instagram: “Judah has joined his parents in Heaven and is resting peacefully now, forever in our hearts.”
Holton’s Heroes was able to help provide him with an adaptive chair known as a P-Pod that typically is not covered by insurance and that allows him to move around his home independently while joining with family and friends in rehabilitation efforts. The adaptive equipment costs approximately $2,000 and will become indispensable during continued treatment of Holton. “Our family is immensely thankful for all the support and prayers of everyone,” stated his family, adding, “and is forever thankful to those who helped raise funds and awareness about such an incredible young person!”
Jackson grew up poor in Newport, Rhode Island as the oldest of seven children. His father served as cantor at Newport’s Portuguese Sephardic synagogue; once Newport’s prosperity was destroyed by the American Revolution they relocated to Boston where he studied art before taking up painting himself and eventually becoming one of Boston’s premier merchant families.
Jackson distinguished himself among junior officers by never abandoning the ideal that all soldiers must act professional. While his strict discipline led to conflicts with his superiors, in 1849 Jackson was appointed brigade commander of 1st U.S. Artillery for invasion of Mexico where his brigade gained the name Stonewall; under this leadership Jackson rose to become known for courageous leadership during battle of Alamo.
Jackson found a deep sense of meaning and fulfillment in his religious beliefs, which he adhered to with remarkable intensity and conviction. His devotion to Christianity and adherence to ritual and diet were so strong as to seem eccentric at times.
His wife Anna’s memoirs reveal a life that was both warm and intimate; this was perhaps the only arena where Jackson did not appear cold or self-concerned. Anna was an attentive mother; her stories of an upbeat and playful Jackson stand in stark contrast to his sometimes harsh image that has come to represent him. Jackson often received criticism during his lifetime due to health concerns related to certain foods possibly harming his body as well as weak arm. But his interest in medicine and desire for good health were common for the time; unlike what some writers claim – he was not just pretending; instead genuinely concerned.
