Fresh Air: Actress Andie MacDowell’s Twitter Profile

Fresh Air’s 64-year-old actress, best known for her roles in Steven Soderbergh’s 1989 cult classic Sex Lies and Videotape and the perennially beloved Groundhog Day, isn’t shy to express herself on Twitter; but she knows when and how to speak out; whether that means giving shelter animals in need a boost, sharing inspirational quotes or articles against Donald Trump or providing signal boosts in general; her Twitter feed is as sophisticated as herself.

Andie Starks stars as Del Landry in Hallmark Original Series The Way Home, premiering January 15 on Hallmark Channel. Through time travel she is able to reconnect with both of her daughters and granddaughter. Additionally she shares the screen with Chyler Leigh, Evan Williams, Sadie Laflamme-Snow Alex Hook and Jefferson Brown – as part of a multigenerational family drama spanning multiple decades.

MacDowell garnered rave reviews when her new show premiered, garnering fans’ praise for being authentic in portraying an aging mom navigating modern life, yet the actress wasn’t sure of how viewers would take to her often sarcastic social media persona.

“I thought I would be more subdued, and instead found it to be quite an exciting journey,” she says. “Those who follow me really seem to enjoy what’s happening – I was quite surprised. They love me!”

Twitter has given her more than just the space for sarcasm; according to her, its followers have also provided her with a forum where people feel they don’t have one. “Having such a public platform has been very liberating,” says Aikens. “There is so much people say online but wouldn’t dare express face-to-face.”

Andie most recently starred as Paula, Alex’s semi-estranged and unreliable mother in Netflix’s moving new series Maid about an American single mother struggling to make ends meet within America’s welfare system. Andie says that to understand her complex character she drew upon personal experiences involving alcohol addiction and mental illness to better portray Paula on screen.

Andie has made her name with ironic roles since debuting as Tina Fey’s character on 30 Rock and appearing as an eccentric true crime satirist Trial & Error, earning roles such as Maid. Additionally, she had a memorable appearance as herself on the sitcom Mr. Mayor; making a cameo as an out-of-touch version of herself!
