Ethan Couch Parents Net Worth
During the week, the Ethan Couch family was in the news for the deportation of Ethan’s mother, Tonya, and Fred’s divorce. Also, Billy Rainford stole the show.
Tonya Couch’s deportation
Earlier this month, the family of Ethan Couch, an 18-year-old who was accused of killing four people in a drunken driving crash, fled the Fort Worth area and disappeared. The disappearance triggered a global manhunt.
Authorities in Texas said they had evidence of a going-away party for Couch. They also said there was evidence of a verbal altercation between Couch and his mother. A neighbor called police after he witnessed the altercation.
After 11 days of searching, authorities were not able to find the family. The authorities passed their address to Mexican authorities, who began searching for the family. The family ended up in a shabby apartment four blocks from the beach.
Several days later, an immigration agent determined the family was eligible for deportation. They were taken to an immigration facility in Guadalajara, a massive white building with a towering fence.
A Mexican judge granted a temporary injunction to keep the family in Mexico. The judge also allowed a delay in the deportation process for 72 hours.
Fred Couch’s divorce from Tonya
Known as the father of Ethan Couch, Fred Couch is a Texas businessman. He was married to Tonya in 1996 and they had their son Ethan in April 1997.
In February 2013, Couch was accused of reckless driving. He had to undergo psychological evaluations. In a separate incident, Couch’s wife Tonya was arrested and indicted on charges of money laundering.
Fred and Tonya Couch are separated and divorced. In 2006, the Couch family was subject to a social study. The study found that Ethan missed 50 days of kindergarten and had a rough home life. He was also subject to a home school program.
Fred Couch and Tonya Couch were not at their home for the deposition. In the meantime, Ethan spent many nights at his childhood home. Ethan had a video game system, large screen TV, and X-Box. He was also allowed to drink at a young age.
In the spring of 2011, Tonya Couch took Ethan to Mexico. Investigators found open containers of alcohol in the truck. He was wearing a neon green tank top, a backward baseball cap, and strawberry blond bangs. The truck also contained a naked 14-year-old girl. The couple were later extradited to the United States.
Ethan Couch’s sentence for intoxication manslaughter
Despite Ethan Couch’s plight, the judge handed him a relatively lenient sentence. The teen was sentenced to 10 years probation and was sent to a private rehabilitation center. This was a much lower sentence than the 20 years he could face in prison.
A defense attorney argued that Couch needed treatment, because his family’s wealth didn’t teach him responsibility. In addition, a psychologist testified that the teenager had “affluenza,” which is a lack of personal responsibility caused by wealth.
A judge ordered Couch to serve six years of probation, and wear a GPS-enabled tracker to monitor his alcohol use. He was also ordered to stay away from drugs.
Two of the passengers in Couch’s truck were seriously injured. The truck clipped a disabled SUV. It then flipped into a tree. The truck then landed on the side of a road, killing Hollie Boyles and Breanna Mitchell.
In addition to these four fatalities, the driver was also responsible for injuring five others. The victims included a youth minister, a motorist, and a good Samaritan. They were all thrown 50 to 60 yards.
