Bianca Dress 10 Things I Hate About You
10 Things I Hate About You – The Feminine Side of Bianca Stratford
10 Things I Hate About You has become a classic teenage film beloved by millions. This iconic teenage flick introduced viewers to actresses Bianca Stratford and Kat Sullivan as well as actor Heath Ledger, as well as being inspired by William Shakespeare’s play of the same name; its many subtle references back to source material can be found throughout this adaptation, such as its setting at Padua High School–an allusion to Shakespeare’s hometown Stratford-upon-Avon as well as giving each girl’s names derived from various characters/plays by Shakespearean authors or playwadecorated production!
Bianca Stratford starts out as a very unlikable character due to her self-centeredness and constant attempts at getting her own way. Over the course of the film however, she drastically improves and eventually realizes she isn’t as great as she thinks she is; this can be seen through both her actions and interactions with Kat, as well as through changes in wardrobe that move away from girlish garments toward more mature options as Bianca matures.
One example is her prom dress. Bianca chooses an extremely feminine pink satin crop top and matching pink tulle skirt combination that shows some cleavage while emphasizing her figure. She wears this to compete against Kat for Joey’s love, representing Bianca’s mature side through this choice of prom attire.
After falling for Cameron, she changed up her clothing choices dramatically; switching from camouflage-patterned wear to soft pastel colors that more feminine. It showed she was trying to become like Bianca more closely. Furthermore, she now sports a flower hairstyle reminiscent of Shakespearean plays.
Her change in appearance corresponds with her gradual tamering by love; indeed, this movie seems to suggest that a girl’s boyish appearance should only last as long as necessary to find true love.
Chastity Church, played by Gabrielle Union, undergoes significant change throughout the film. From initially being likeable and friendly towards Bianca to later turning against her and trying to date Joey herself. Although sometimes rude and rude at times, Chastity is also intelligently manipulative: She uses both Cameron and Joey in her quest for revenge against Bianca as well as showing emotional intelligence during their final scene together.
