Two Car Accidents in Charleston, Illinois Yesterday
A two car accident on the streets of Charleston, Illinois sent four pedestrians and drivers to the hospital, but did you know there were two dogs euthanized at the scene? If you are traveling Route 16 between downtown and the Charleston Airport, you should be on your guard. One of the passengers was transported to the aforementioned CAMC General Hospital in Charleston, but the other is still in the throes of a grueling recovery.
According to the Charleston Police Department, the aforementioned accident is the result of a driver who lost control of his vehicle at a 77S/64W split. It is estimated that he hit a cement barrier wall on the way to a Martin Marietta Charleston Yard. However, he was not ejected from the vehicle, which was the first thing on his mind.
Another incident happened less than an hour later, when a school bus from the North Charleston Creative Arts program crashed into a store front near the intersection of Miller Road and Montague Avenue. The bus is now en route to its new destination, and eight students from the program were on board. Somewhat oddly, a number of the students were elementary school aged, whereas the bus’s passengers were in the late teens.
A pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, while the other three were flown to Carle Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Two of the drivers have been charged with DUI and improper lane usage. While the driver is currently on the mend, the car has a long road ahead of it.
